Unsavory Creatures
Cockroaches reproduce quickly. The females carry the egg case on their backs and have new offspring every 3 to 6 weeks. An untreated cockroach population can grow exponentially, into a full infestation, within a few weeks.
Most cockroach species (American, Oriental & Turkestan) live outdoors and are commonly found in our sewer systems, storm drains, and water meter boxes. They find their way into homes through sewer pipes, under door thresholds, and through cracks in flooring and foundations. Because they come in contact with human excrement in sewers or pet droppings outdoors, they are capable of carrying and transmitting bacteria that cause food poisoning, like Salmonella.
After identifying the correct cockroach species, our technicians will spray products specifically tailored to their biology. Indoxacarb, Imidacloprid, and Fipronil-based products are effective to quickly subdue a cockroach infestation. Our technicians will also use gel baits to kill any cockroaches that come back later. In addition, glue boards have proven effective to monitor the direction cockroaches are coming from and to identify species. This type of infestation is not one you want to tackle on your own. German cockroaches are a unique nuisance because they reproduce at an alarming rate, they are smaller than the other species of cockroaches, and almost exclusively exist where humans do. They are typically transported into homes and businesses rather than entering on their own as they cannot survive outside. German cockroaches are believed to be capable of transmitting numerous disease-causing organisms such as Staphylococcus, Streptococcus, the hepatitis virus, and coliform bacteria. The initial treatment for German cockroaches requires the area to be cleared of all items in cupboards, cabinets and countertops. This “cleanout” service will flush out the German cockroaches from their hiding places and have them come in contact with products that will kill them quickly. Due to the extensive treatment required to effectively exterminate German cockroaches, extra fees outside our regular maintenance programs are required. Call us for a free inspection if you think you have German cockroaches.
