Cockroach Control Exterminators In Southern California

Of the many pests we treat, cockroaches may be the most obnoxious and frustrating to exterminate.  Roaches are large, ugly, reproduce quickly, and can take over a home or business in a short amount of time if not dealt with quickly.  Cockroaches truly are survival experts and actually thrive in unsavory conditions.  Their ability to quickly access areas that we humans cannot, or will not, makes the cockroach a difficult adversary.  This is also the main reason most do-it-yourself control products are much less effective than advertised.  Let the experts handle it!

Identifying an Infestation

The first step in our cockroach control service is to identify the type and species of the cockroach infestation so that the most effective control method(s) may be used.  The most common types of cockroaches here in Southern California are the Oriental cockroach, American cockroach, Turkestan cockroach, and the dreaded German cockroach.

Cockroaches mainly hide in dark warm areas, especially in narrow spaces where surfaces touch them on both sides.  Roaches can squeeze through cracks as small as 1/16 inch wide.  Almost all cockroaches are nocturnal and thus are rarely seen in broad daylight.  They undergo gradual metamorphosis as they develop and grow into adults.  Evidence of nymph or baby roaches is a sign that the infestation is extensive.

Unsavory Creatures

Cockroaches reproduce quickly.  The females carry the egg case on their backs and have new offspring every 3 to 6 weeks.  An untreated cockroach population can grow exponentially, into a full infestation, within a few weeks.

Most cockroach species (American, Oriental & Turkestan) live outdoors and are commonly found in our sewer systems, storm drains, and water meter boxes.  They find their way into homes through sewer pipes, under door thresholds, and through cracks in flooring and foundations.  Because they come in contact with human excrement in sewers or pet droppings outdoors, they are capable of carrying and transmitting bacteria that cause food poisoning, like Salmonella.

After identifying the correct cockroach species, our technicians will spray products specifically tailored to their biology.  Indoxacarb, Imidacloprid, and Fipronil-based products are effective to quickly subdue a cockroach infestation.  Our technicians will also use gel baits to kill any cockroaches that come back later.  In addition, glue boards have proven effective to monitor the direction cockroaches are coming from and to identify species.  This type of infestation is not one you want to tackle on your own.  Give us a call today.

German cockroaches are a unique nuisance because they reproduce at an alarming rate, they are smaller than the other species of cockroaches, and almost exclusively exist where humans do.  They are typically transported into homes and businesses rather than entering on their own as they cannot survive outside.  German cockroaches are believed to be capable of transmitting numerous disease-causing organisms such as Staphylococcus, Streptococcus, the hepatitis virus, and coliform bacteria.  The initial treatment for German cockroaches requires the area to be cleared of all items in cupboards, cabinets and countertops.  This “cleanout” service will flush out the German cockroaches from their hiding places and have them come in contact with products that will kill them quickly.  Due to the extensive treatment required to effectively exterminate German cockroaches, extra fees outside our regular maintenance programs are required.  Call us for a free inspection if you think you have German cockroaches.

The Best Mode of Treatment

When it comes to cockroaches, prevention is certainly the best medicine for avoiding damage to your house, valuables, and even your health. If you already have an infestation, call a professional exterminator right away. Someone from Preventive Pest will assess your situation, determine the type of cockroaches present to help determine the most effective treatment, and even assist you in determining the point of entry for these cockroaches, as well as any other trouble spots on and around your home that could become a problem in the future.

Making sure your house is cockroach-proof significantly reduces your chances of experiencing issues with cockroaches in the future.
